This guide covers how to setup your MPK with Presonus Studio One 2.

Connect to the computer

  1. Attach the USB cable to the back of the controller, and connect the other side to an open USB port on the computer. (Preferably not an external USB Hub.

  2. Make sure the MPK's LCD screen lights up and illuminates blue.  This means the unit is on and ready to be used.

  3. Turn the knob to the right of the screen to choose the the Generic setupPush in to select the setting.

Studio One 2 Setup

  1. Open up the Studio One 2 software.

  2. Choose Create New song and name your session.

  3. Click on Studio One on the very top menu bar.  Choose Preferences.

  4. This opens the Options menu. Click on External Devices. Then click Add...

  5. This opens a menu where you click on the AKAI folder and choose the MPK series as your midi controller.

  6. Make sure that you choose the Akai MPK series controller on the Receive From drop down window and the Send to.

  7. This will bring you to this window, where you select your controller and hit OK. You now are ready to use your MPK controller.

Setting up a Track

  1. Click on Track and then Add Tracks.

  2. A window will open up and choose:

    • Type: Instrument
    • Input: Default
    • Output: New Instrument and select the plug-in that you want to use from the list.

  3. Click OK and this will select your virtual instrument.

  4. Make sure you select the Record Enable recordbutton and Monitor speakerbutton buttons on the track you've created along with setting the Input to All Inputs.

  5. Double-click where it says Track and this will open up your mixer screen.


How to View Your Instrument

  1. If you want to see your Virtual Instrument click on the name of the instrument you selected on top of the fader.

  2. This will open up the viewer window of the virtual instrument.
