  1. To answer the call, press the Surf's Call Receive/End button.

Note: If you get an incoming call during music playback, the music will pause until you end the call.

How do I connect the Surf to my Bluetooth device?

  1. Turn on your Bluetooth device.

  2. Power on the Surf and it will automatically go into pairing mode to search for Bluetooth devices. You will know you are in pairing mode when the Bluetooth icon is slowly flashing.

  3. Navigate to your Bluetooth device's setup screen, find "Surf" and connect.

Note: If your Bluetooth device prompts for a pairing code, enter "0000".

  4. Press and release the Bluetooth button to disconnect a paired Bluetooth device.

  5. To connect to another Bluetooth device, repeat step 3.

Note: Maximum range will be achieved when using devices with Bluetooth 4.0 or higher.

My Bluetooth device sees the Surf but is unable to connect to it. How do I get my device to re-connect?

In your device's Bluetooth settings, select the Surf and choose "Forget Device". After your device "forgets" the Surf it should be able to reconnect.

Can my Surf link to a second Surf speaker?

Yes! Follow these steps below to link two Surf speakers together wirelessly:

  1. Power on both Surfs.

Note: In order to use Stereo-Link Mode, you cannot have a Bluetooth device connected. If one speaker is connected to a Bluetooth device, break the connection by pressing and holding the Bluetooth button.

  2. With no Bluetooth device connected (blue LEDs on both speakers will blink), on one Surf press and hold - and + until you hear a short 3-tone melody, repeat this for the second Surf. The melody will indicate the Surfs are searching for each other to link as their blue LEDs begin to blink fast.

  3. Wait about 10-30 seconds for the Surfs to find each other. Once “linked”, one Surf will say “Paired” (if the voice prompts are enabled). Now that the two speakers are “linked,” one speaker’s blue LED will be solid, while the other speaker’s blue LED will blink slowly to indicate it’s ready to pair the stereo linked speakers to your Bluetooth device (e.g., your phone.)

  4. When the Surfs are wirelessly linked to play in stereo, on your Bluetooth device turn on Bluetooth, and connect to “SURF”.

  5. Once your smartphone is paired, you will hear “Paired” (if the voice prompts are enabled) and audio can now play out of both speakers in stereo.

    • In Stereo-Link Mode: UI Controls on both speakers will be active.

    • To exit Stereo-Link Mode, press and hold and + until the speaker goes back into pairing mode saying “Ready to Pair”.

    • In Stereo-Link Mode, press Power to turn off both speakers.

Note: If a Surf is in Stereo-Link Mode when you power it off, it will be in Stereo-Link the next time you power it on. That means if two Surfs are linked when you power them off, they will automatically link when you power them on as long as they are in close range of each other and powered on within 15 seconds of each other. If the Surf does not locate the second Surf within 15 seconds, it will revert back to single-mode and begin searching for a Bluetooth device.

Can I send voice commands to my Surf using my Virtual Assistant?

Yes! To trigger your connected smartphone's voice assistant (e.g. Siri®, Google®, etc), press and hold the Next Track button for 2 seconds, and then speak into the microphone.

Can the Surf be mounted on a tripod?

Yes! There is a 1/4” (6.35 mm) tripod mount located on the bottom panel of the Surf that can be used for mounting the Surf to a tripod.

My audio doesn't sound right or sounds distorted. What's going on, and what can I do to fix it?

If the sound of your Surf is coming out distorted, try lowering the volume control of your sound sources - such as your iPod, iPhone, or Android device.  About 75% volume will you give you the best signal quality.

If you continue to experience sound issues after following the steps suggested above, you may want to contact ION Technical Support.
