  3. While Learn Mode is active, click and move any parameter in Logic you want to control (fader, pan, plugin controls).

  4. Next, slide your finger on the Axiom AIR fader, knob, or pad you want to assign to that control. The parameter should begin to move/respond to the control immediately.

  5. Repeat these steps for any other type of parameter you want to map. When you are finished, make sure to click Learn Mode again (so it is not a darker grey color).

  6. Not all 3rd party plugin effects and instruments will work with this, but many do. The previous steps remain the same for those.

Logic Pro 9 HyperControl Configuration

HyperControl—previously known as DirectLink Mode—is an exclusive technology found in M-Audio keyboards. Simply put, HyperControl automatically maps your keyboard’s many controllers to instantly match the most useful and commonly accessed functions in many of today’s top music software titles. This powerful and time saving feature eliminates the need to assign controls manually, so you can start making music right away.

  1. Download and install the Logic Hypercontrol Protocol from the M-Audio Support site (follow the link below)
  2. Connect your Axiom AIR controller and turn the power on.
  3. Open Logic Pro and start a new session.
  4. From the Logic Pro menu at the top of your screen, navigate to Preferences>Control Surfaces>Setup.

  5. Your Axiom AIR controller should already be detected as a device. An icon of the Axiom AIR will appear in the setup window that opens. Click on this icon and ensure that Output Port and Input Port are set to HyperControlModule and Model should read AxiomAIR. If you do not see the Axiom AIR icon, make sure you have run the installation for the HyperControl Protocol as noted at the beginning of this section.

Overview of HyperControl Assignments in Logic Pro 9

The knob, fader, and pad sections of section of your Axiom AIR has three control mode buttons beside them (the Axiom AIR 25 does not have a fader section). These buttons will determine which type of parameters the Axiom AIR will automatically map to. Each of these modes has three "Banks" indicated by the colors red (1st), green (2nd), and orange (3rd).

The MIDI BANK button will send standard MIDI control information which will not use the HyperControl assignments. This would be used when manual mapping controls as explained in the Logic Pro MIDI Mapping section. In the pad section, MIDI BANK mode is used when triggering sound/samples.

The MIX button will assign controls in that section to common mixing controls; primarily volume, pan, and send/return levels. Which channels are controlled depends on how many channels you have in a particular Logic session and which channel is currently selected.

The INST/FX button will assign controls in that section to parameters in the virtual instruments and effects on the currently selected or visible channel. If you would like to change the plugin that these controls are assigned to, simply open that plugin's user interface.
